Writer. Educator. Fiber Artist.

Yasmine Ameli (she/her) is a queer biracial Iranian American artist currently based in Philadelphia. She holds a BA in English from Johns Hopkins University and an MFA in Creative Writing (Poetry) from Virginia Tech. Her poems and essays appear or are forthcoming in several publications, including POETRY Magazine, Ploughshares, The Sun, the Southern Review, AGNI, Narrative, Black Warrior Review, A Public Space, Shenandoah, Copper Nickel, ROOM Magazine, Sundog Lit, The Margins, Frontier Poetry, The RumpusCrazyhorse, Mizna, BITCH Media, Nimrod, Nowruz Journal, and Ujima Wire.

Yasmine has been the recipient of scholarships and grants from Poets and Writers, Reese’s Book Club, MASS MoCA, the Edith Wharton House, the Straw Dog Writers Guild, Monson Arts, Franconia Sculpture Park, the Oak Spring Garden Foundation, and elsewhere.

She works as a holistic writing coach for creative writers seeking guidance on cultivating sustainable writing practices, developing and refining manuscripts, and professional development, including publication and application support. As an educator, she is passionate about demystifying the writing process, providing writers with the craft tools they need to tell their stories, democratizing access to writing and publishing resources, and providing providing trauma-informed care. She regularly teaches through creative writing nonprofits, including Grub Street, and she has developed professional development workshops for MASS MoCA’s Assets for Artists, Muse & the Marketplace, Chill Subs, conferences, and MFA program series. In addition to reading and editing for the minnesota review, Yasmine has served as a juror for the Massachusetts Cultural Council, National Endowment for the Arts, Poetry Foundation, Mid-America Arts Alliance, and elsewhere.

When she is not writing or teaching, Yasmine is crocheting, embroidering, foraging, flower-pressing, beading, collaging, papermaking, junk journaling, and jewelry making. She sells her crafts in Philadelphia and, soon, online too.
